The 2010 International CES is coming to an end! And we already got a lot of news on all the gadget blogs on the latest gadgetry to come to the consumer world.
The stuff of tomorrow is here today! At an extremely unaffordable price, but here nevertheless! Let’s go through some key stuff shall we?
First, 3D Super-(almost-paper-thin)-slim TVs! And to go with it, The Discovery Channel and ESPN plan to broadcast new channels all in 3D!
This DOES sound exciting! At least for Discovery Channel… not sure how awesome the FIFA games will be in 3D. I mean the ball usually goes from left to right anyway, never towards the audience…. but you never know! Still will be amazing to see movies, tv shows and sports in 3D! And of course I know a few guys are anxious for the porn stuff.. but that in my opinion just sounds like there is room for fail…
All that aside, it’s the need for glasses that are the current turn off, but they are working on improving the glasses-free option! With a few limitations at the moment, it seems to work pretty well!
Current Limits:
- Only works from specific distances (like 10 feet away from screen)
- Only a few specific viewing angles available (8 to be exact)
Outside of that you get a blurry mess… but its progress! (Check out a video example here:

Slate/Laptop Hybrid
The next big thing are e-readers! Everyone wants to re-invent the book! But this is a post all to itself so moving along…
THE YEAR OF THE SLATE PCs!
With the rumor mill on full swing on the forthcoming iSlate from apple (why? cause they registered the domain that’s why!), there’re lots of slate PCs coming out. What is a slate? basically a touchscreen netbook it seems. Some companies (like Lenovo) are making hybrids. laptops where the monitor comes apart to become a touchscreen slate PC. Others are trying out the dualscreen touchbook option. All really cool but still lacking in my opinion in style.
And of course, to be different there’s the TRANSPARENT OLED screen! Because it wasn’t enough dealing with glare on the glossy LCDs, now we need to worry about whats going on on the other side as well to interrupt our ability to see the screen contents!
But it’s got a really high cool show off factor ! And I’m guessing this tech will eventually be geared towards HUDs.
The last cool thing to mention, the title of this post… the SUPERPHONE!
What? Oh it’s called the Nexus One, and it’s a smartphone technically.. but because it is so powerful and amazing Google is calling it the superphone !!! <insert loud echoing effects>
It runs the Andriod 2.1 OS with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB RAM it’s basically a mini, handheld netbook PC. But a phone. For those of you unaware what any of this means, the iPhone 3GS only has 256MB of RAM and a puny 600MHz processor. What does this mean? It means, not only can the Nexus One run multiple apps, it can do it twice as fast and THAT is amazing! So yes, I’m loving the phone that does everything the iPhone does but better… also because I’m an HTC fan
But never fear you Apple fanboys! Steve Jobs is set to make a new product announcement on the 27th! I’m sure its another phone and flurry of ipods to make all current 3 month old releases obsolete… again. And you can rejoice! Also let’s not forget about that iSlate rumor!
